Do I Have an Eating Disorder?

WE JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW....

* We won't fall asleep on you during appointments;
* We won't judge you by how much you eat/don't eat;
* We won't weight you/ask your weight and:
* We certainly won't tell you to 'just eat' or 'pull your socks up'

Unfortunately, some of our clients have had these happen to them with other support/services. Can you believe that?! We;;, w don't do that. We are here to listen and support you.

You might be thinking, 'well that's good to hear, but do I REALLY have a problem with food?'

We get many emails asking, 'I have a difficult relationship with food at times, but I am not (overweight/underweight/exercising X amount/not being sick more than X times a week/fill in the blank), does that mean I can't seek help or come to therapy or counselling?'

As far as we are concerned at Talking EDs, if someone says that they have difficulties with food and eating and that it affects their life in some way, then they may have an eating disorder or a form of disordered eating and need help and support.

We won't slap a label on you though (unless, of course, yo find it useful to have a name for the problems you are experiencing) as we working with everyone individually. We are interested in you and how things are for you - not lists of un-representative criteria from textbooks. Talking with therapists and counsellors who actually understand too it a bonus!

Feel free to drop us an email: support@eatingdisorderscotland.co.uk or browse the website too: www.eatingdisorderscotland.co.uk

We now have a lead psychotherapist (Alexandra) and two fully qualified and experienced affiliate therapists to (Stephen and Shirley) here at Talking EDs.  We will shortly have a newly qualified therapist/counsellor, Sue, joining the team too and she will provide some *free therapy sessions on Friday afternoons as she is extremely keen to gain more experience in eating disorders and feels very passionate about working in the field (* Sue will provide free therapy sessions, however, clients taking advantage of this will be required to pay £15/session to cover room hire and some of her travelling costs)

You deserve help and support from those who really understand and 'get it'. Get in touch with is to discover how we can help and support you. We also provide consultations to other professionals or organisations looking for support regarding eating disorder and stress management and therapy/counselling sessions to carers/family/friends/supporters of someone experiencing an eating disorder.

We look forward to hearing from you. Alexandra :-)

Focus on.... Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (or EDNOS)

Focus on.... EDNOS/OSFED Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (or EDNOS) is now increasingly known as OSFED (Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder) accounts for the highest percentage of eating disorders. EDNOS/OSFED is just as serious and debilitating as any other form of eating disorder and needs to be taken more seriously. Unfortunately, however, in our experience, this is often not the case and many are not given appropriate treatment or support (whether from family, friends, professionals and others) and the condition can deteriorte and even change into another form of eating disorder. WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT EDNOS/OSFED? Then read on..... EDNOS/OSFED is the most commonly diagnosed eating disorder in clinical settings. It has often been described as ‘partial syndrome’; however, in our opinion, referring to an eating disorder as 'partial' presents several problems, namely that the client or patient is denied support. EDNOS/OSFED describes a form eating d...
