VACANCY: Commitee Members for the Eating Disorder Therapist Networking Group (UK-wide applications accepted)

VACANCY: Commitee Members for the Eating Disorder Therapist Networking Group
(
UK-wide applications accepted)

Hello,

Talking EDs (Eating Disorder Support Service Scotland) are pleased to say that we have some volunteering vacancies available with the non-profit, voluntary arm of our business, the Eating Disorder Therapist Networking Group. Please see the attached Information Sheet which offers details about what the Eating Disorder Therapist Networking Group is.

Before we open up membership of the Eating Disorder Therapist Networking Group to the public, we are looking to assemble a small group of volunteers who will be part of the Planning Group Committee. This is a great opportunity to volunteer 2-3 hours per month while meeting new people, developing new skills and knowledge and gaining experience in the eating disorder field and in planning and organising meetings and events.

If you are interested in becoming a Committee Member on the Planning Group, please get in touch for a  Role Description and Application Form. We will then organise an informal chat with those who would like to be on the Committee. References will only be contacted if you have been offered the role and have accepted it.

As this is a Committe Role, we do have to complete applications and have informal chats following application to ensure we secure volunteers who are the right fit for the role.

AFFILIATES: If you are an affiliate working for any my 3 practices, please just send me a note of interest in the role - we don't have to do applications and we will just organise a quick chat.

Closing date for applications: Friday 10th September 2021, 5pm
Informal interviews: 1-2 weeks following the closing date

Due to COVID-19, interview will currently take place online, via Zoom.

Although we are based in Scotland, we welcome anyone in the UK to apply for this committee role as you can join our meetings online (if some of us meet in person).

If selected, the induction will be online. We are looking to assemble a committee sooner than later so we can re-launch the networking (with it's new name) and start recruiting members and hosting meetings/events.  to start the role soon after the interviews.

If you are still interested  in this role, please have a read of the attached Role Description and send the completed Application Form and Personal Statement to this email address by the closing date

If you have any questions, need any more information or would like to apply, please feel free to get in touch. Similarly, if you know of anyone who might be interested in  applying as a Committee Member or joining as a Registered Member in the future, they are very welcome to get in touch with us. Thanks for your time and interest in Talking ED and the Eating Disorder Theraist Networking Group. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Alexandra

Myths & Stereotypes: Eating Disorders....Part 2

Myths and Stereotypes - Eating Disorders : Part 2 Eating disorders are not a ‘diet’. They are a mental health illness that can impact upon all areas of life and have negative, distressing and often life-threatening consequences. Eating disorders are characterised by having a difficult, negative or dysfunctional relationship with food and eating. This changes thoughts and feelings about food, and, consequently, the person's behaviours and habits surrounding food and eating. Neither are eating disorders about beauty, appearance or looking a certain way. In fact, they often have little to do with food, but lots to do with gaining control and finding a way of coping with life. Thoughts, feelings, emotions, memories and experiences are all controlled through one’s relationship with food. Control or non-control of eating and food provides a way of also coping with often painful, difficult or distressful thoughts, emotions, experiences or memories: by blocking them out, denyi...

Focus on.... Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (or EDNOS)

Focus on.... EDNOS/OSFED Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (or EDNOS) is now increasingly known as OSFED (Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder) accounts for the highest percentage of eating disorders. EDNOS/OSFED is just as serious and debilitating as any other form of eating disorder and needs to be taken more seriously. Unfortunately, however, in our experience, this is often not the case and many are not given appropriate treatment or support (whether from family, friends, professionals and others) and the condition can deteriorte and even change into another form of eating disorder. WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT EDNOS/OSFED? Then read on..... EDNOS/OSFED is the most commonly diagnosed eating disorder in clinical settings. It has often been described as ‘partial syndrome’; however, in our opinion, referring to an eating disorder as 'partial' presents several problems, namely that the client or patient is denied support. EDNOS/OSFED describes a form eating d...
