Talking EDs: Eating Disorders Support Service Scotland seek to recruit a suitable Counselling or Clinical Psychologist to join our friendly, supportive team of psychotherapists, counsellors, mental health practitioners and dieticians. We are currently a team of 12. We are looking for an Affiliate Psychologist: Eating Disorders to provide in-person therapy and counselling appointments at our offices in Glasgow city centre.

This role is not suitable for newly qualified therapists (0-3 years) or those with little or no experience of eating disorders.

We are looking for someone to see our clients for one of the available clinic times below. We request that Affiliates commit to seeing at least 5 clients per week during one of the clinics below. Other work will be available here and at our other non-eating disorder practices, should you want extra clients. We need a practitioner who can see clients during one of a blocks of time/clinics below (although you can spread clients across the days/times below, if you prefer):

  • Monday mornings, 8am-2pm
  • Monday afternoons/evenings: 4pm-6pm
  • Tuesday morning, 8am-11am
  • Thursdays, 11am-9pm (various slots available during this time)
  • Fridays, 2pm-9pm (various slots available during this time)
  • Saturdays, 4pm-6pm
  • Sundays, various slots available all day

You can choose which of these appointment slots suits you and we will set up a clinic for you during those times to see clients.

We do all the admin, advertising/marketing, getting the clients, arranging appointments, answering enquiries etc. - your role is to provide therapy sessions with the clients we refer to you.

This is a sessional self-employed role, however, you are very much part of a team and you will receive various benefits and discounts as part of your role. We regularly check in with Affiliates and you will have access to individual and group supervision, networking events, discounts, updates and more. This is a flexible role that you can fit around your other commitments.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Here's some of the abilities, skills and experiences we are looking for:

  • This role is NOT suitable for newly qualified clinicians (e.g. under 3 years) or for those who don't have substantial experience working directly with eating disorder clients/patients. 
  •  Degree or equivalent professional qualification (e.g. undergraduate or masters psychology degree) (E)

  • Doctorate in Counselling or Clinical Psychology (E)

  • For Psychologists: you must be a practitioner psychologist with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration (E)

  •  BPS Membership and chartered practitioner psychologist status are (D)

  • Ability to offer psychological assessments (e.g. ASD) (E/D)

  • Minimum of 650 hours of prior experience of in-person therapy or counselling with individual clients (we would recommend that a significant proportion of the work is with adult clients) (E)

  • Must be a qualified counselling or clinical psychologist of at least 3 years post-qualifying (this does not include your training years) (E)

  • At least 3 years working in the field of eating disorders/disordered eating either in private practice, with an agency or in a work setting. At least half of this experience must have included one-to-one specialised work with clients experiencing eating disorders/disordered eating, if possible (E)

  • Be a fully qualified therapist/psychotherapist/counsellor/psychologist. This will be evidenced by a completed, recognised professional qualification in therapy, CBT or counselling to Diploma/Degree level or equivalent (E)

  • Have an integrative approach to therapy and tailor therapy to each individual client. Work with clients on a short/medium/long term basis (E)

  • Ability to work with the diverse range of clients, including children, young people, adults and older adults (E)

  • Experience of working with at least 3 of the following: bulimia, binge-eating, emotional overeating, anorexia, restrictive eating disorders, orthorexia, ARFID/SED, purging disorder, EDNOS//OSFED/UFED, or any form of disordered eating that does not fit any of the descriptions above (not all clients/referrals are clinical eating disorders – we often see clients with problematic eating that are not clinical eating disorders) (E)

  • Ability to work with possible co-morbidity that may then become the focus of therapy (e.g. anxiety, depression, EUPD, self-harm, stress, emotional regulation difficulties, negative body image etc.) (E)

  • Aptitude for engaging in dynamic, effective working alliances; creating appropriate therapeutic contracts, including long-term psychotherapy, structured CBT-E, focussed, brief work, potential single sessions agreed in collaboration in accordance with the client’s needs, physical health, stage of change, previous therapy, other support, goals and treatment outcomes (E)

  • Demonstrable skills and experience in relation to conducting clinical assessments, including the management of risk (E)

  • Well-developed aptitude for self-awareness and demonstrable self-reflexive practice enabling the candidate to work calmly under pressure (E)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (E)

  • Ability to work on own initiative and manage the competing demands of a varied workload (E)

  • Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a team (E)

  • Have current public and professional indemnity insurance, PVG/Disclosure Scotland, ICO Data Protection Certificate and be registered as self-employed with HMRC (E)

  • Qualification in providing online therapy (D)
  •  Willing to see non-eating disorder/disordered eating clients from the other two practices too (E)

  • Be willing to work in-person at our offices in Glasgow.
