EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT: 'Using the Artistic Voice to Inspire and Aid Eating Disorder Treatment and Therapy for More Impactful Recovery'


We are excited to announce the next event/meeting of the Eating Disorder Therapist Networking Group (EDTNG), which will also mark Eating Disorders Awareness Month in March.

This is a FREE event; however, we are requesting a £10 donation that will go to the Guest Speaker's charity that funds treatment for those experiencing eating disorders who may not otherwise be able to afford it. The Guest Speaker has agreed to offer the event for free in return for donations. We will cover the cost of Zoom and Certificates and all donations will be given to the Fund noted below.

ABOUT THE EVENT
Guest speaker, Ally Zlatar will offer a talk/presentation and group discussion on how to employ the artistic voice to help understand the lived-in experience of eating disorders. She will explore how we can utilise the artistic and scientific voice to inspire and aid eating disorder treatment and therapy for more impactful recoveries. Ally's talk will help to bridge a ‘gap’ in our understanding and treatment of eating disorders. The event will involve a talk/presentation by Guest Speaker, Ally. Group discussion and participant input/feedback will also be encouraged following the talk/presentation.

ALLY ZLATAR BIO
Ally Zlatar is PhD Researcher who is currently exploring visual art and mental illness. In particular, her doctorate aims to redefine and directly impact our understanding of eating disorders and explore how we can utilise the artistic and scientific voice in make positive change within eating disorder recovery.  Ally is also a lecturer at the University of Glasgow.

Ally was recently awarded the prestigious Diana Legacy Award in 2021  by Lord Spencer and Prince William for her art initiative 'The Starving Artist'. Ally experienced an eating disorder, personally, for over 9 years and aims to share her experiences and her art through 'The Starving Artist'. Her art activism intentionally draws on considering the art field to bridge a ‘gap’ in the understanding and treatment of eating disordesr. Ally has created two books, hosted 10 exhibitions and has raised over £10000 for her 'The Starving Artist Eating Disorder Scholarship Fund' The Fund aims to help individuals access inpatient treatment. The donations requested for this event will be given to this Fund and assist those seeking treatment for eating disorders.

Ally's work has worked with over 50 International Female Artists, and several historic female artists. She had collaborated with many other organisations including:  The British Museum; London Drawing Group; The Smithsomnian; UNESCO; Safeline UK; London Eating Disorder Conference; and many more. Ally has worked to help recovery programs better understand the impact of  food and diet' on the psyche. (e.g. the Royal Infirmary and Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh).

This is a FREE event; however, we are requested that a £10 donation is given to the Fund noted above as a thanks you for Ally's time and work. All donations will be directly transferred to the Fund above, following this event.
